The Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen Book
Born in 1805 in the Danish port city of Odense, Hans Christian Andersen, the son of a shoemaker and a washerwoman, spent his childhood wandering between the humble corners of everyday life and the grand, enchanted realms he conjured in his mind. By his twenties, he had made his way to Copenhagen, where he began writing in earnest.
Over the decades, Andersen penned some of the world’s most beloved stories: The Little Mermaid, The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Snow Queen, and dozens more. His fairy tales, first published in the 1830s and continually expanded through the 1870s, were celebrated not only in Denmark but across Europe and beyond, translated into countless languages during his lifetime. Though he traveled widely and enjoyed acclaim among artists and royalty alike, Andersen never lost the gentle melancholy and hopeful curiosity that shaped his work. He died in 1875, leaving behind a treasury of tales that continue to enchant readers of every age.
